It’s the sister ball to the more rigid Superhot 70. ![]() This three-piece, soft Surlyn-covered ball has a compression value of 55. The Callaway Superhot 55 is one of the newest and greatest middle-handicap golf balls. In this case, a compression value of around 100 offers the best performance. If you want to improve your distance, choose a ball with a compression value of around 50.īut if you already have a fast, powerful swing, consider a rigid ball for more control. Conversely, 0 means the ball is flexible and can deform as much as one-fifth of an inch upon impact.Īs a rule of thumb, compressible balls travel farther than non-compressible options. A compression value of 200 means the ball is rigid and does not compress at all. Golf ball compression is measured on a scale of 0 to 200. Golfers call the measure of this deformation compression. When you strike the golf ball with your club, the ball is briefly deformed before it flies away. Or for golfers with solid drives and decent ball control who aren’t looking for drastic improvements. ![]() These are perhaps the best choice for beginners. Of course, you can always choose a ball with a medium spin level. These can give you more distance and control in hard surface situations. If you’re aiming for the green, you might appreciate a low-spin ball that bounces and rolls. While a low-spin ball doesn’t travel as well, you will get more rolling distance with less backspin. Slicing is primarily caused by excessive backspin, although other drive factors can contribute. Giving your ball a strong backspin compensates for this and remedies the sidespin that causes hooking.Ī low-spin ball might decrease flight distance, but it also lowers the chances of a slice. Hooking is most often caused when sidespin exceeds backspin. If you have good ball control but want a few extra yards on your drive, choose a ball with high spin.Ī good backspin can also straighten your shots if you tend to hook the ball. This is the result of backspin, which is imparted to the ball from the clubface. A high-spin ball decreases drag and will travel farther. In terms of aerodynamics, spin is among the most important aspects. When you’re choosing balls, the key considerations are spin and compression. But your choice of golf ball can say a lot, and may even take a few strokes off your game. Especially if you have a habit of losing them on the course. It’s always tempting to go with cheap golf balls. Product comparisons with other top-selling golf balls. ![]() If so, consider changing your ball and taking the Superhot 55 for a spin. Or you’re looking for something fresh to give your drives and fairway play some edge. But your choice of golf ball can make a big difference as well.ĭuring our Callaway Superhot 55 review, the technology and engineering Callaway incorporated in its latest product impressed us. What the hell do i know though I'm a beginner too, its just my experience. Many golfers pour all their attention and money into their clubs. My point is play diiferent types of balls and learn how they perform diffently in different situation, cold vs hot days, windy vs calm days, are the yardages different, longer shorter, do the putt different, do they have feel on wedge shots, learn the differences of the balls and it will make you a better golfer for it. I also play the Prov1x for awhile and that ball is like rock and is harder to control with wedge shots for me vs the Vivid and Prov1. The matte finish on the Vivid also grabs the clubface really well with wedges and you can spin the hell out of them. Also the Vivid ball is less effected by the wind.on windy days the Volvik performs awesome, cuts the wind better for some reason. 7iron with a prov1 for me is 167, 7iron with a Vivid is 182.yeah big difference. The Volik ball perfomes completely different then Prov1 and i had to make adjustments to play them. However, I also hate how expensive Prov1's are and tried playing the Volvik Vidid balls for awhile because they are cheaper. I started off playing Prov1 and thats all I played for awhile and I've donated plenty of them to the woods and water but they are very consistent and they have a better feel off the putter face to me then all other balls. In my opinion if you dont make consistent contact with ball then you would be able tell the difference between balls so I would think that would matter first for anyone before they can tell the difference of between types of balls. I think I would be considered a begineer golfer as I've only been playing golf for a little over a year but I'm currently a 9.7 handicap. ![]() If your a good ball striker and you make good center clubface contact consistently then yes it matters.
